AI Lab

The European ARTificial Intelligence Lab (AI Lab) is a follow-up project to the European Digital Art and Science Network, a creative collaboration between scientific institutions, Ars Electronica and cultural partners throughout Europe that unites science and digital art. The European ARTificial Intelligence Lab follows on from this and addresses visions, expectations and fears that we associate with artificial intelligence. The consortium consists of 13 cultural institutions from Europe with Ars Electronica as coordinator. This online archive provides an overview of all activities carried out during the project's lifetime from 2018 to 2021. It also provides information about the network itself, the residency artists and juries, and the project partners involved. The AI Lab is co-funded by the EU program "Creative Europe (2014-2020)" and by the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport.

Meylan (National Theater) is located in the area of Grenoble, France, and welcomes in its 560 seats theatre about 30 shows (theatre, dance, circus, music,…) and 30 000 spectators a year. In addition to its traditional missions as a «Scène Nationale» (artistic production & presentation, cultural development), Hexagone has also developed since 2002 a research activity. Hexagone thus has created in 2007 the Atelier Arts Sciences, a common research and creativity platform shared with the French research centre CEA (The CEA Grenoble dedicates the main part of its researches to the development of the micro- and nanotechnologies). It has promoted creativity through encounters between artists and scientists at intersections between art, culture, technology and sciences. Das Meylan (Nationaltheater) befindet sich in der Region Grenoble, Frankreich, und veranstaltet in seinem 560 Sitzplätze umfassenden Theater etwa 30 Shows (Theater, Tanz, Zirkus, Musik,….) mit 30.000 ZuschauerInnen pro Jahr. Neben den traditionellen Aufgaben als “Scène Nationale” (künstlerische Produktion & Präsentation, kulturelle Entwicklung) hat Hexagone seit 2002 auch eine Forschungsaktivität entwickelt. Hexagone hat 2007 das Atelier Arts Sciences gegründet, eine gemeinsame Forschungs- und Kreativitätsplattform, die mit dem französischen Forschungszentrum CEA (The CEA Grenoble widmet den größten Teil seiner Forschungen der Entwicklung der Mikro- und Nanotechnologien) gemeinsam genutzt wird. Sie fördert die Kreativität durch Begegnungen zwischen KünstlerInnen und WissenschaftlerInnen an den Schnittstellen von Kunst, Kultur, Technologie und Wissenschaft, und organisiert Residencies, die es ermöglichen, neue Ideen und bahnbrechende Innovationen hervorzubringen, und neue Technologien, die in die Kunstausstellungen integriert werden können, damit sich die BesucherInnen ihre eigene Vision entwickeln können, die durch den Fortschritt der wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse ausgelöst wird.
