Digital Communities Anerkennung - Honorary Mention 2010

CulturaDigital.Br

CulturaDigital.Br is an initiative of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture in partnership with the National Education and Research Network.
It is an experimental platform for social and collaborative media for public use, fully developed with free software with the goal of providing an environment for public policies related to digital culture in Brazil.
In order to promote a better comprehension of the various scenarios that form the mosaic of digital culture in Brazil and to make it easier for the public to participate in issues concerned with monitoring and assisting in the construction of public policies and regulatory frameworks that will shape the digital sector, the Ministry of Culture, the National Education and Research Network (Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa— RNP) and people from civil society launched the Brazilian Digital Culture Forum.
The experiment began with the release of the social network CulturaDigital.Br and the invitation of experts and networks of cultural activists to register and set up a profile of their digital references (their blog, Twitter, Delicious, Youtube etc.) on the forum.
The environment was built to bring people and their social streams together, linked by the tag #culturadigitalbr, organizing and documenting their participation in the debate.
In the second half of 2009 the forum hosted several meetings around the country and also on the online platform to discuss policies for digital culture related to the five main themes proposed by the CulturaDigital.Br team: memory, communication, art, infrastructure and economy.
Digital culture is a new and emergent term. It has been used in different forms by different sectors and incorporates different perspectives about the impact of digital technology and networking in society. The organizers of the CulturaDigital. Br network see its role as convening a collective analysis of these broader perspectives and encouraging the participation of all stakeholders in an innovative process of collaborative construction of public policies for the digital sector in Brazil.
Notably, the process of the Brazilian Digital Culture Forum is happening at a time when our country is dealing with major debates on regulatory frameworks and public policies that directly affect the landscape of digital culture.
As one of the most important processes, the public debate over a civil framework of the Brazilian Internet (Marco Civil da Internet Brasileira, http://culturadigital.br/marcocivil/) has been completely developed within the CulturaDigital.Br platform.
