Computermusik Anerkennung - Honorary Mention 1987

Synthese II

Franz Peter Cibulka
Synthese II is another attempt to interlock the sound of a traditional instrument with the sound of a computer.
This composition is intended to point out that computer music may also be emotional.
The composition shows the traditional ternary form, representing a dialogue between a clarinet and the computer.
The clarinet score is a free improvisation and is multiplicated and intermixed by the processor.
Born 1846 in Obdach/ Styria/ Austria. Trained as a blacksmith; he decided to take up a musical career and studied composition, clarinet and musical theory at the Gral Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst. He also plays the first clarinet In the Gral Symphony Orchestra. In his compositional career he has been awarded scholarships, prizes and awards. His musical oeuvre is distinguished by many contrasts; on his quest for a personal sound language, Franz Peter Cibulka includes harmonic elements both of jazz and popular muslc.

For the Prix Ars Electronica 1987 Franz Peter Clbulka entered the composition "Synthese II" - Emotion digital, duration 8'30", Graz 1887, for clarinet improvisation and computer.
