Rococo #506
Stefan Smith,
Windmill Lane Productions
Rococo #506 is a short animation created by Stefan Smith. It is about the role of the designer/director in the commercial production industry. The concept explores the synthesis of art and commerce and the relationship between one's personal creative influence and the advertising message with its intrinsic baggage. The visual style represents the beauty of electronic energy in its simplest analog form far from the interface and the plastic buttons used to create what we desire. What is actually revealed is that it controls us in many ways that are not so apparent, just as the commerce of the industry forms our ideas and concepts into things that would not be revealed otherwise.
Stefan Smith began his career after attending the Art Institute of Chicago as a freelance print designer in Chicago. There he designed projects for many different industries, from print ads and packages of Mariel Hemmingways's H2O+ Cosmetics, to co-founding Buddy Guy's monthly publication Legends Blues Letter. His musical connections then led him to a music video show called JBTV, where Stefan designed graphics and shot concerts at local venues.
