The concept and organisation of Backspace is intrinsically linked to the ebb and flow of the Thames, a much abused and maligned source of inspiration and energy.
Backspace is an open environment for exploration and expression on the Internet and the focal point for related events, audio, visual and otherwise, with particular bias toward the diverse talents of its members.
Enquiring minds are encouraged to make contact and take up membership. Consider yourself invited. James Stevens (UK) attended his first Art School in 1980 in Epsom, later in Kingston Polytechnic. He has worked in groups like Cardiacs and Exploding Cinema. In 1995 he founded Obsolet web design group with Jon Bains and Kim Bull but experienced the horror of advertising. In 1996 he established Backspace which is now at the heart of his work and a pilot for new spaces. He lives in South London and relaxes gardening.
