Nymphomatriarch

Aaron Funk, Venetian Snares, Rachel Kozak, Hecate
On Nymphomatriarch, musicians Aaron Funk (Venetian Snares) and partner Rachael Kozak (Hecate) captured the sounds of their privately recorded debaucharies while on tour in Europe and Canada. Interviewed for an article on new concrete-sound based electronic records in the Manchester Guardian, Funk summarizes his first sense of the musical value of his recordings: "I remember thinking, 'That slap will make a good snare drum'”. Based on samples derived from the sounds of Funk and Kozak engaging in anal and oral sex, bondage, caning, spanking and microphone insertion on MiniDisc, the resultant gulps and gasps, groans and slaps, were subsequently crafted into into a cutting edge collection of drill and bass-driven breakcore and ambient atmospherics.
Aaron Funk (CDN) seamlessly synthesizes drum and bass, jungle, noise, free jazz, hardcore, 10M and electro-acoustics into mashed up musical hybrids. Having released multiple recordings on a variety of underground electronic labels including Planet Mu, Isolate and Hymen since the late 1990s, he has quickly established a worldwide reputation for his eclectic, humorous and hard driving soundworks. Venetian Snares is representative of a second generation laptop culture that has assimilated the influences of 1990s 10M, and is in the process of coalescing a new youth-driven musical idiom with similarly avant-garde compositional leanings.

Rachael Kozak (CH) is a vigorous, versatile interdisciplinary engenue: musician, artist, video editor, web designer, label head. There are very few areas of cultural creativity she is not involved in. As Hecate, Kozak has released scores of material on the Zhark, Zhod and Praxis labels (to name a few) and scored remixes for the likes of Le Tigre and Lustmord, with no signs of slowing down. Kozak has been a part of the infamous female artists collective, the Homewreckers Foundation, and is currently the art director of her own multimedia imprint, Zhark International. Her first full-Iength album, The Magick of Female Ejaculation, was released at the end of January 2003 on the Praxis label.
