Die Kiste
Kyra Buschor
_Die Kiste_ (”The Box“) is about three aristocratic frogs who, due to unknown circumstances, have come into the possession of a mysterious box. With great eloquence they discuss whether they should open the box or leave it closed.
The project originated within the framework of a Film Design 1 class at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy.
A fellow student and I developed the idea of making a film about intellectual frogs. But when this student decided to pursue a different idea, I continued working on the story alone and wrote the script for the film.
In developing the characters it was particularly important to me that the frogs be quite unlike one another. Each of them was to have a different repertoire of gestures - which also made animating everything more interesting later.
I only had three weeks to realize the film, which is why I began designing and modeling the frogs and sets during class. The software programs I used were Cinema 4D and ZBrush. During the first week of the project, I recorded the voices of three actors from the Stuttgart area. During this same period, I finalized and rigged the frogs. In the next one and a half weeks, the frogs were animated to the voice recordings, whereby several of my fellow students assisted me. In the last days before the deadline, I did the lighting and rendered the individual shots. A colleague added the sound to the final edited version for me.
