Spiderbytes
Lars Lundehave Hansen
_Spiderbytes_ is a very direct visualization of sound, utilizing the physics of sound to create “animals” that will leave a trace dependent on the sound fed to them. The “animals” in each “terrarium” are created from speaker units mounted with graphite sticks and animated by the low frequencies from 5 Hz to 50 Hz, with frequencies specially chosen to match the sonic properties of each speaker.
_Spiderbytes_ originally consisted of two metal shelves, shielded with Plexiglas, thus creating terrariums in which the animals could “live”. Since then the work has been shown in different formats, most notably one where three speakers share a wooden platform on which they can “fight it out” so to speak.
