Minkoku Hyakunen: Project Integration / Intervention into Tenryu City
You-Sheng Zhang,
Minkoku Hyakinen,
Minkoku Hyakunen,
Dawang Huang
This is the only official release of _Minkoku Hyakunen_ (民国百年)—on an edition of 300 CDs. Its subtitle, _Project Integration / Intervention into Tenryu City_, means that the members of _Minkoku Hyakunen_ take the sound of Taipei City as their “instruments.” Sometimes they just did the field recording in order to catch the city soundscape. Sometimes they “performed” there and made themselves parts of the field and recorded the soundscape, which includes the sounds they make themselves. There are 16 tracks collected from many events and places, some of which Minkoku Hyakunen have edited. Naughty, noisy, and really interesting.

**Zhang You-Sheng** (TW) is a guitar / power-electronic noise artist. He reunited with multi-instrumentalist and singer **Huang Dawang** (a.k.a. Yingfan) in spring 2010, several years after some of Yingfan’s impressive gigs. Both of them have their recorded works released on the internet. Based on the common sense of revulsion for the “Centenary of Republic of China”, an official, long-running celebration as propaganda much liked by dictatorships, on the last day of 2010 they formed Minkoku Hyakunen, which is the Japanese pronunciation of the “Centenary of Republic”, played their final gig on December 9, 2011, and officially disbanded on the end of year. They use methods with political thoughts in live performance instead of talking about politics or relative keywords, and mostly play pieces without a stable tempo or happy melodies, making only stupid noise.
