XinCheJian: The First Hackerspace in China

_XinCheJian_, the first of many hackerspaces in China, is one of the many hundreds of such spaces all around the world. Each hackerspace is an autonomous entity, but they all share the same philosophy of having fun building things.

_XinCheJian’s_ mission is to support, create and promote physical computing, open-source hardware and the “Internet of Things.” To achieve this, _XinCheJian_ has talks, discussions, projects, startups promotion, workshops, competition organization and our own participation in international competitions.

Our long-term goal is to spread the concept and philosophy across China and inspire hackerspaces in every large city from east to west. We are doing this by creating a community loosely federated with the global community of hackerspaces across the world. The community favors fun, creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and openness to provide a learning and development opportunity to the Chinese people and foreigners in China.
We also maintain contact internationally with other hackerspaces, and we apply and participate in ambitious projects such as the Great Global Hackerspace Challenge (spring 2011; an international competition for all hackerspaces) and the 100 Year Starship project (fall 2011). Inside these projects we can build increasingly more complex cyber-electro-mechanical systems.

The community attracts visitors and projects, creating valuable connections between expats, local Chinese and returning Chinese and international visitors. _XinCheJian_ generates new skill sets with technology, valuable projects, innovative ideas and contacts across the tech communities, which offer a whole new pool of opportunities.
