The Carousel Family

Te-Yu Liu
_The Carousel Family_ is an animated comedy about a family living in a house that has been refurbished from a merry-go-round. Just like a real amusement ride, the floor in the house rotates when the music starts. So do the furniture and household goods. But electrical and sanitary equipment does not rotate, because they are fixed to the wall with pipes. The daily life of the family is busy with the rotation.

This animation is to commemorate my childhood memory, the excitement and satisfaction when I rode on a merry-go-round for the first time. It has kept rolling inside me ever since, and reminds me to enjoy the endless fun of daily life.

Te-Yu Liu (TW). _The Carousel Family_ is my first animation. As an amateur breakdancer, I used to practice breakdancing in the railway station. So far I have attempted to create a visual style that combines realism and surrealism as the features of my works. I think art and design itself is somehow like dance—there must be a story to tell behind various visual clues. Good design always has a good story that affects people’s emotions. One’s life experience and expertise are all parts of this story. I hope this animation might recall the common life experience and childhood memories of the audience. For me this is the greatest satisfaction.
