Gedichterbe
Antye Greie-Ripatti
_Gedichterbe_ investigates German poetry and the heritage of the German language within electronic music and society. Starting with the first known female German poet, Frau Ava (11th century), until today’s “wunderkind” poet Ann Cotten (born 1982), poets are chosen from the Romantic period of the 18th century via Jewish poets of the 20th century to poets from both Germanies after WW II.
Personalities from the German electronic music scene help AGF to interpret the poems, and the collaborators range from the famous techno DJ Ellen Allien, the underground avant-garde legend Gudrun Gut, the prolific German Rapper Pyranja, Berlin’s electronic star Barbara Morgenstern, Cobra Killer’s scandalous Gina D’Orio and more.
AGF presents poets and poems that are close to her heart. Specifically, she investigates and interprets the relation to sound and music. So what does this sound like? Can Quio rap Frau Ava? Do Friedrich Schiller and Günderode stand the test of time ? Can Else Lasker-Schüler and Paul Celan inspire us today?
The music is radically modern and contemporarily minimalistic, supporting the poetry as well as the history around it. The historical text is interpreted via digital sound technology and aesthetics. Sometimes poems are deconstructed and cut-up and processed to the point of non-recognition; sometimes the poems stand there pure and sometimes words are entirely missing and music speaks for the poet who is being interpreted.
The voluminous CD Book (70 min) includes numerous calligraphic drawings by AGF and an extended scientific text in German by Christine Lang about language and sound in the context of this work.
