8D Sound Live Experience

Raúl Quilez
Resonant Piano Live Experience: This work proposes a transgressive auditory experience. The Resonant Piano is a 'bionic' piano, what is played on the piano is captured and sent to a computer that processes the sound and sends it back to vibrating speakers placed inside the piano. The musical composition with this instrument seeks pure emotion through neuro-perceptive strategies that transport us to suggestive scenarios. What is it? Resonant Piano Experience is an immersive 3D musical experience through state-of-the-art software for a wireless headphone system. It can enhance the viewer with a greater sense of space and depth through the compositions, enjoying a completely new and immersive experience.
Why on headphones? Nowadays, to recreate a 8D sound, it is no longer necessary to have a complex multichannel system. Through the use of headphones we can synthesize real spaces with the help of binaural techniques, bringing the viewer closer to the different layers and structures of Resonant Piano Experience. What is Binaural listening? Binaural listening, unlike conventional reproduction in stereo or multichannel system, is a reproduction technique that allows us to recreate a much more real sense of space and perspective to the listener. With the technology we have today at our hands we can synthesize that listening completely. How does it work? Through software, created at IRCAM and developed for FLUX in France, the sounds of Resonant Piano Experience are filtered and positioned in a virtual space to give the impression that sources are located around, above or below our heads. This phenomenon is produced by a synthesis of the acoustic interaction between our bodies and the sound environment that surrounds us. Natural binaural reverberation is also important for the convincing effect. The signals are displaced three-dimensionally in that space achieving a precise and high definition sound never before experience in a musical show.
