Aus analog wird digital - Unterrichtsprojekt Digitale Medien in der Volksschule

Nicole Fuchs, Volksschule Steinhaus

The three-week project Aus analog wird digital – Digitale Medien in der Volksschule at VS Steinhaus, led by Nicole Fuchs, taught first-grade pupils how their own drawings could be turned into an animated cartoon. First, the children drew their favorite cuddly toys on paper; using animation software, these soon began dancing across the screen. Complemented by audio recordings based on the children’s own ideas and wishes, the class created a joint film titled 1b and Their Cuddly Friends.

Volksschule Steinhaus, Prof. Nicole Fuchs

Nicole Fuchs is teaching as a class teacher at Steinhaus/Wels elementary school since 2022. Due to her chosen specialization in “Media Education”, she is intensively involved in didactic considerations for basic digital education in elementary school and is always on the lookout for innovative programs, apps and media for daily use in primary schools.

This project not only showcases the children's creative side but also promotes their digital competencies in a playful way.
The fact that the children were able to bring their cuddly toys to life with their own texts and backgrounds gives them a valuable opportunity to express their imagination. This is a fun way to learn techniques, but also to learn what it takes to create animations, what steps you need to take to make a cuddly toy “come alive”. Media education as a “hands-on” model for very accesible educational work. A successful example of how digital media can be used creatively and meaningfully at primary school level. A really great and ambitious project for first-graders that could certainly also be applied in higher grade levels.
