Digitaler Dialog, Menschliche Gestaltung – Eine virtuelle Kunstgalerie als Schule der Vernunft

Lisa Kuka, HTL 1 Bau & Design Linz

Under the title Digitaler Dialog, Menschliche Gestaltung – Eine virtuelle Kunstgalerie als Schule der Vernunft, teacher Lisa Kuka at HTL1 Bau und Design Linz developed a teaching project focused on creative work with generative AI. Individual approaches were explicitly encouraged: one student contrasted AI-generated images with her own watercolor paintings; another created an online quiz in which friends had to guess whether a story was generated by AI or written by the Brothers Grimm; yet another student produced an animated design tutorial with the help of ChatGPT. The project shows that AI can be both a tool and an opportunity for critical reflection.

Lisa Kuka, HTL1 Bau & Design

Lisa Kuka is a teacher at HTL1 Bau & Design and a research associate at JKU Linz. She conducts research and teaches in the areas of artificial intelligence in education, media pedagogy, and digital education. Her focus lies in developing innovative teaching methods that promote critical thinking, media literacy, and the creative use of new technologies. Additionally, she is active in teacher education and professional development, advocating for reflective and action-oriented media education.

This project not only impresses with its creative and diverse results, but above all with its research-based approach to the topic of artificial intelligence. Based on self-selected research questions, the students develop their own projects in which they deal with AI individually, critically and practically. Each project reflects a personal perspective on the technology and its impact on our society. The young people not only apply AI, but also reflect on its possibilities and limitations. They contribute their own interests, share experiences and learn from each other. The teacher does not act as a traditional knowledge mediator, but as a supportive mentor who creates space for exploratory learning and enables individual in-depth exploration. The resulting end products are diverse, authentic and clearly show the students' individual engagement with the topic - the different research questions allow for a broad and deep engagement with AI overall.
