0,003s
Deutsch

0.003s is a browser-based, interactive installation that explores the relationship between human moral judgment and algorithmic decision-making.
Six moral dilemmas challenge visitors to make a decision—from the classic trolley problem to algorithms currently used in hospitals and on online platforms.
But the system has already decided: it makes the same choice in 0.003 seconds, before the first sentence has even finished being read. The installation concludes with a direct comparison between the user's own moral profile and the aggregated profile of AI systems deployed worldwide. The work doesn't question the dangers of AI. It poses a question about us: if humans and machines make identical decisions, what still distinguishes us from the machine? Hesitation. Regret. The awareness of our own failure. The system doesn't know these things. We do.

The project by BG BRG Purkersdorf was selected because it addresses a highly topical issue in a nuanced and critical manner. The work raises uncomfortable yet crucial questions regarding the use of artificial intelligence and places the answers within a reflective context. The successful combination of technological speed and human engagement with the subject is particularly compelling. The website provides space for reflection and encourages active engagement with the opportunities and limitations of AI. It also highlights the different ways in which humans and AI construct meaning. Through its concise, contemporary, and critical approach, the project makes a significant contribution to the current debate and therefore receives a Young Professionals Honorary Mention.
