Digital Intimacy
Deutsch

Digital Intimacy is a media installation by Yogi Fraisl and Philip Hübner that explores society's everyday use of smartphones. The work serves as a reflection of the current zeitgeist. It presents tranquil, everyday scenes played in endless loops. The videos are not displayed on traditional screens, but directly on smartphones suspended from the ceiling by charging cables.
In the loops, one observes people engrossed in their mobile phones, while the act of watching inevitably and involuntarily reproducing what is seen makes the viewer part of the installation. This dissolves the separation between observer and subject.
The installation neither criticizes nor instructs. It merely aims to illustrate the state of society by holding up a proverbial mirror to the viewer.

Digital Intimacy explores everyday digital behavior in a clever, visually compelling way. The work reveals how captivated people—especially young people—are by their mobile devices in public spaces, making this phenomenon aesthetically tangible. The staging is particularly effective: viewers become part of the message. Content and form intertwine seamlessly. The selection of everyday scenes creates a sense of recognition and spans a broad spectrum of situations. Despite the limited movement, the videos exert a powerful pull, inviting close observation.
