Instabiles Zuhause
Deutsch

Instabiles Zuhause (Unstable Home) explores the feeling of home from the perspective of a 14-year-old boy who emigrated from Ukraine to Austria due to the war. Demian Ivanov photographs Viennese cityscapes and transfers them into cyanotypes—an early form of photography—which he develops himself. The light-dependent, barely controllable process becomes a metaphor for conditional stability: his residency status is renewed annually, and each print remains fragile and unique. The cyanotypes are augmented by AR animations activated via the Artivive platform. When scanned, fragments of dreams, desires, and nightmares appear. The artist created these animations using AI: with text-to-animation software, he curated the process through targeted prompts; he selected, assembled, and edited the generated material himself.

Instabiles Zuhause (Unstable Home) combines cyanotypes with augmented reality to create a multifaceted artistic exploration of the concept of home. Photographs of everyday paths and places are placed within a broader context, opening up a personal yet universal perspective. The complementary AR layer adds another narrative dimension to the work, its abstract and associative visual language leaving room for interpretation. Thematically, questions of belonging, security, and identity are addressed sensitively and thoughtfully. The successful fusion of aesthetics and concept results in a powerful work that evokes emotion and prompts reflection. Therefore, Instabiles Zuhause is awarded the u14 Prize.
