Special Projects

The Special Projects Showcase presents selected initiatives realized with the support of various funding programs.

These include the Starts Prize (since 2016); all submissions are documented in the archive, with the winning projects accompanied by rich audiovisual materials. The project was funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program. The AI Lab (2018–2021) brought together 13 European cultural institutions to explore visions, expectations, and concerns surrounding artificial intelligence; the archive contains detailed information on participating artists, juries, and partners. This project was supported by Creative Europe and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts and Culture. The European Digital Art and Science Network (2014–2017), involving institutions such as CERN and ESA, is documented in the Art & Science section and was funded by the Austrian Federal Chancellery and Creative Europe.

Together, these projects showcase Ars Electronica’s commitment to innovative, interdisciplinary, and Europe-wide initiatives, highlighting the creative, scientific, and technological collaborations at the heart of its work.
