Volta

Alex Kane
Music & entertainment are going 3D - Volta is a new tool for creators in the new landscape of experiential and immersive entertainment, a mixed reality interface for musicians, music producers and performers.

In a world of smart sensors, machine vision, artificial intelligence, gestural controls and virtual reality our music creation and performance tools are embarrassingly two dimensional and vestiges of the era of tape machines, rotary knobs and slider potentiometers. Volta is a completely new way to produce and perform music. Volta replaces knobs, buttons and sliders with physical embodied interaction - expressive interfaces that harness the power of mixed reality.

Three big changes are happening in music and entertainment. 1. Mass market entertainment is shifting to various permutations of immersive experience (the new Madison Square Garden Venues, The Marshmello concert in the game Fortnite, Live Nation partnering with NextVR to virtually broadcast concerts are just a few examples). 2. Spatial audio is going to be one, if not the primary way people consume music (Tidal has just released their first spatialized 100 albums).

Essentially, music performance is increasingly shifting from focusing on musical virtuosity to “the spectacle” and spatial audio and immersive performance tools are integral to this future. Volta is designed specifically for this new wave of experiential and immersive entertainment.

Volta is just about to launch an alpha version of the core platform to test in situ with musicians, producers and performers.
