Frederik De Wilde (BE – 1975) is a multi-awarded artist who studied fine arts, media arts, and philosophy. His work lies at the intersection of art, science, technology, and design, exploring inaudible, intangible realms and complex systems grounded in dark ecologies. De Wilde critically examines the impact of technology on society and the environment, aiming to reconnect humanness while embracing the unknown. His notable project, the Blackest-Black, developed with Rice University and NASA, won the 2010 Ars Electronica Next Idea Award and Best European Collaboration Award. This work has inspired artists like Sir Anish Kapoor (Vantablack) and has been widely covered (Huffington Post, TED). De Wilde has exhibited globally at venues including BOZAR (Belgium), ZKM (Germany), Venice Biennial (Italy), and Centre Pompidou (France). His art is in permanent collections such as ZKM and Frost Museum. A laureate of the Royal Flemish Young Academy, De Wilde has collaborated with institutions like NASA and is an affiliated artist at the University of West England's Unconventional Computing Laboratory.
