Breath Strati
Yasuno Miyauchi
The chorus “Breath Strati” aims to create a transformation of sound similar to the movement of air or mist, by using the high-pitched, delicate overtone of women’s voices. There is no score for this music, but its structure is based on a simple rule: the timeline is built according to the different natural lengths of human breath. Thus anybody can participate and a new “living music” is born every time, depending on the characteristics of each participating body. Each person listens to the others’ change, and the voices resonate; it is music like meditation or prayer.
Yasuno Miyauchi (JP), born in 1980, works primariiy in composition and live performance having collaborated with artists from different genres such as film, dance and installation. He has an MA in media arts from IAMAS (Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences), Gifu, Japan. He studied composition, Computer music and algorithm composition under Prof. Masahiro Miwa on the Time- Based Media Program.
